-:: COURSE PROFILE ::-
 |
Billerica's Swanson Meadows Golf Course, a 2243-yard, nine-hole public course, is a challenge for players on all levels. Golfers will be rewarded for accuracy as opposed to distance as it is known in golf terms as a Target Course.
(All distances are from the Blue Tee) |
 |
Hole 1 (367 yards, par 4)
The first hole is straight-away with a bunker 175 yards on the left side. Up at the green, a bunker is located to the right side. It is not too challenging for a starting hole while trying to get the rust off. |
 |
Hole 2 (293 yards, par 4)
Although it is not listed as the toughest hole on the course, it is very tricky. From an elevated tee, golfers must keep their ball right as there is water on the left side about 190 yards down. That water shelters the green and there is only a small area on the right to get on the green to stay dry. After a shot over the green, golfers face a nine-foot drop and the ball will roll far away. Sevens or eight's can easily be recorded here. |
 |
Hole 3 (352 yards, par 4)
Keeping the ball right is a key as woods and a small stream run down the left side of the fairway. It is rated as the number one handicap on the course, but by staying right, experienced golfers should be able to at least bogey the hole. |
 |
Hole 4 (170 yards, par 3)
There is a blind tee shot over a hill, but golfers can see the top of the flag. Being short instead of long is OK here. A short shot will roll down the hill onto the green. A long shot, however, goes into the woods 15 feet behind the green. |
 |
Hole 5 (126 yards, par 3)
This hole is downhill but two sand traps around the front of the green make this hole play a little tougher. |

Hole 6 (303 yards, par 4)
The fairway is narrow on this hole and it features a dog-leg right. Golfers need to keep their tee shot to the left side of the fairway to have a clean look at the green for their second shot. There is a trap in front of the green.
|
 |
Hole 7 (128 yards, par 3)
Golfers must put their drive on the green or go into the water in front of this wet hole. If golfers go over the green on their drive, they will go into some trees. Accuracy is a key here. |
 |
Hole 8 (153 yards, par 3)
The green is slightly elevated on this hole and there is a trap on the right side guarding it. The flag is usually situated behind the trap.
|
 |
Hole 9 (351 yards, par 4)
This hole is wide open, but has a trap 175 yards on the left side and another trap on the right side in front of the green. The hole goes uphill slightly back to the clubhouse. |

| TEE IT UP |
One key to
hitting
fairways is
knowing where
to tee the
ball. Most
golfers
instinctively
stick their
peg in the
middle of the
tee box, never
thinking to
move to the
far right or
left, which
creates the
largest
landing area
possible. Here
are two points
you should
also consider
when teeing it
up:
Get close to
steer clear.
Start as
close as
possible to
the worst
trouble (out
of bounds,
trees,
water) and
aim away
from it. If
there's a
large bunker
on the left
side of the
fairway; try teeing near
the left
marker. This
way you
create the
best angle
to hit away
from the
bunker.
now your
shot
tendencies.
If you
normally
draw the
ball, tee up
on the far
left and aim
at the right
side of the
fairway. Even if you
hit it dead
straight,
it's still
likely to
finish on
the short grass.
Switch sides
for a fade. |
